Mr. Michael Evans, Consular Selection Chief of the Embassy of the United States of America (USA) has urged winners of the US Diversity Visa Lottery to follow the right procedures before appearing at the Embassy for interviews.
He made this statement during a Press Conference which aimed at providing the latest information on the U.S. Diversity Visa program and to discuss the right procedures that winners are to follow in filling their documents.
He said, the lottery is free to enter and it must be done through the internet at the website www.dvlottery.stategov during the application period and it must not be done more than once otherwise the applicant would be disqualified.
He said the requirements for the visa lottery includes 5 passes at the WAECCS O-Level, SSSCE or WASSCE including English and Math; A-level; HND; or University Degree with two years working experience in specific fields.
Mr. Evans emphasized that winners must pay the application fee for all family members at the time of their arrival for the first interview and that the fee is not refundable even if an applicant is disqualified.
He urged applicants not to submit fake documents as part of their application otherwise they will be disqualified from the DV and thereafter might be permanently ineligible for any visa to the U.S.
The Consular Selection Chief cautioned that spouses would automatically be disqualified if the validity of their relationships were not proven and legitimate.
DSP Philip Mawusi therefore cautioned the public against fraudsters who steal people's documents and manipulate them to suit themselves.
The Vice Consular, Mrs. Juliana Bonnardeaux, announced that the opening of the 2010 Visa Lottery began on October 2 and ends on December 1 this year.
She debunked the claims in certain quarters that programme seeks to extort money rather than helping people to travel to the United States. She disclosed that the offer is given mainly to those who do not have families as well as jobs in the U.S.
