The Ghana Post has opened a new branch at Abokobi, in the Ga East District, last Thursday, which incidentally was also World Post Day.
It was constructed under Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) financing.
Commissioning the new post office, the Managing Director of Ghana Post, Mr. Kofi Dua-Adonteng, said that against predictions of the demise of postal services, postal services were alive, well and now more relevant to society, today than ever before.
"We live at a time where the different means of communication complement each other, thus the e-mail, internet, mobile phone and other technology-driven means of communication have not replaced the post, but have instead created new opportunities for it, said Mr. Dua-Adonteng.
The Minister of Communication, Dr. Benjamin Aggrey-Ntim, on his part said in addition to marking the day with speeches, "We are celebrating the occasion of the World Post Day with the delivery of a landmark project as we commission an important post infrastructure centre to serve the communication needs of the Abokobi community and beyond."
The occasion was graced with the presence of Hon. Amadu Sorogho, Member of Parliament for Abokobi, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ga East, Hon. Kofi Allotey the Presiding Member for the Assembly, Hon. Baba Zakaria, and was chaired by Nii Afutu Brempong III, Danfa Mantse.
