Angola: General Highlights Importance of Pre-Initial Meeting on Exercise Certification

Luanda — The Pre-initial meeting of the Certification Exercise of the Economic Community of Central Africa State (Eccas) Stand-by Brigade constitutes the framework for the participants to share and reflect on the regional organ's responsibilities.

This was said Monday in Luanda by the organ's assistant secretary general, gen. Egídio de Sousa Santos "Disciplina".

The Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) general was speaking on the fringes of the opening of the Pre-initial meeting of the Eccas Regional Brigade certification exercise being attended by delegates from the community's ten member countries.

According to the officer, during the works, the participants are expected to draft the juridical basis, operational planning, logistic assistance and come up with contributions.

The participants are also expected to come up with pertinent indications enabling the Eccas secretariat to define, in due time, the juridical status of the troops that will take part in the exercise and participate in the costs of the said exercise.

He said the experts' reflections, enriched with the experience from preceding exercises, will be a remarkable contribute towards the construction of an architecture of peace in Central Africa, coherently adjusted to the Africa Union scheme.

According to AU guidelines, the multinational exercise of Eccas Stand-by Brigade, arranged to take place in Angola in 2010, will comprise the various political, diplomatic, military and civil components.

It will also involve all organs of management of crises and the group of security forces of Eccas member countries.

The regional organ groups Angola, Central Africa Republic, Tanzania, Lesotho, Botswana, Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi, Congo and São Tomé and Príncipe.
