The Imo State government owned Standard Shoe Industry, Owerri, has rolled out the first set of shoes from its production lines after several years of inactivity.

The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Chief Ben Obinali, who disclosed this at a news conference in Owerri, also expressed government's preparedness to reactivate all the other ailing industries in the state.

"The Standard Shoe Industry, Owerri, has commenced production after several years of inactivity. We are now shopping for credible distributors for the products being turned out from the production lines of the Company", Chief Obinali said.

Answering a question on the outcome of the investigation initiated by members of Imo State House of Assembly into the recent attempt by a Lebanese merchant company (names withheld) to sell 600 bags of expired rice to Imo people, the Commissioner said the establishment has been asked to pay N50 million as damages to the state government or build a health centre for the people.
