In view of the current reforms and challenges in the Nigerian Energy industry, the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) have concluded plans to address the challenges in the sector with a special emphasis on gas.
This was stated by the President of the association, Dr. Kingsley Ojoh when he addressed the press to herald the pre-conference workshop of the association which holds in Lagos today.
He stated that the annual pre-conference workshop of NAPE which has spanned over 17 years has been an annual event through which the Association adds value to the growth of the petroleum sector as it applies to exploration and production of crude oil.
"The annual conference of NAPE, the umbrella association of all petroleum geologists adds value to the growth of the upstream sector in Nigeria. The event is also a veritable platform for generating industry contribution to policy formulation and implementation to the various departments and agencies of the Federal Government of Nigeria."
Dr. Ojoh further stated that policy areas as the gas flare out programme, marginal fields programme and deep water exploration policy framework are all fall-outs of the association's pre-conference workshop which is billed to host the Honourable Minister of Energy (Gas) Chief Emmanuel Odusina as the Special guest of honour, while the keynote address would be delivered by the Special Adviser to the President on Energy Matters, Dr. Emmanuel Egbogah.
According to him, some of the issues to be considered for discussion are Deepwater Gas Terms - Issues, which is to be delivered by Mr. Chris Ogiemwonyi, the Executive Director, Exploration and Production of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Basil Omiyi of Shell would deliver the speech on Energy Challenges and Gas Policy issues.
"This year's pre-conference workshop theme was chosen to deliver to government and all the stakeholders a deep and incisive articulation of the issues affecting gas and the energy industry in Nigeria and to propose practical means of achieving national reserve targets in addition to delivering the most value from the commodity."
Also speaking, the President-elect of the association, Mr. Victor Agbe-Davies who is also the chairman, planning committee noted that as a tradition, NAPE's pre-conference workshop is a prelude to the annual international conference and exhibition which comes up later in November.
"The International Conference and Exhibition has the theme : Unconventional and New Exploration Plays. It will feature a programme built around four core themes which are Shelf to deepwater exploration-lessons learnt, Shelf to deepwater exploration, new and emerging trends, 40 billion reserves target - facts, opportunities and challenges for Nigeria as well as Future trends in oil and gas exploration and development."
Over the years, the NAPE has held several pre-conference workshops which is always a prelude to the association's annual conference.
While reacting to questions from newsmen at the briefing, the President, Dr. Kingsley Ojoh stated that the association has made series of recommendation over the years to the Federal government some of which has always being positively considered, and this has being part of the strength behind the annual conference as well as the pre-conference which in essence is held in order to discuss current issues affecting the growth and optimal output of the oil and gas sector in Nigeria especially as it relates to oil finds both in the continental shelf and the deep offshore.
