A National Assembly delegation, headed by its deputy speaker, João Lourenço, is since Sunday in Geneva, Switzerland, to attend the 119th Interparliamentary Union Assembly starting Monday.
The meeting that will go until Wednesday, will elect the chairman and the deputy chairmen to the 119ª Assembly, analyse the report from the IPU commission on the United Nations and the amendments to the statutes and regulations of the organisation.
The session will also discuss topics included on the agenda for the 120th assembly schedule for 2009, with stress to the promotion of non-proliferation of armaments and nuclear disarmament and full ban on nuclear arms test.
Other topics for discussion have to do with climatic changes, models of lasting development and renewable energies, freedom of expression and right to information.
The Angolan delegation is made up by MPs Albertina Teresa José with the ruling MPLA party and Clarisse Caputo, opposition UNITA.
On the fringes of the IPU session, Angola will also attend the Assembly of the Association of Parliaments' Secretaries General.
The meeting will tackle topics concerning the activities of the officials during electoral periods and will receive several communications from parliaments' secretaries general of Korea, Canada, Zambia, India and other countries.
The IPU chairman, Ferdinando Casini, will address the session, focusing on the cooperation between the organisation he leads and the Association of Parliaments' Secretaries General.
