Angola: Police Chief Urges Sarpcco Staff to Deepen Criminal Knowledge

13 October 2008

Luanda — Commissioner João de Almeida "Sá", National Police general commander's adviser for the training area, this Monday in Luanda urged officers of the Southern African Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (SARPCCO) to deepen their knowledge on criminal intelligence issues, in order to thwart any possible criminal actions in the region.

The high ranking police officer was speaking at the opening of the second Criminal Intelligence course being taught to 30 personnel belonging to SARPCCO, including 15 Angolans, aimed at identifying and sharing, systematically, police-related information amongst SADC's specialised services.

According to Commissioner João de Almeida "Sá", intelligence is one of the actions that police forces can develop and, when prepared and well performed, enables commanders, at all levels, to take timely and right decisions to thwart any action of abnormality.

The general commander's adviser said he is convinced that participants to the course will show their commitment to acquire the best knowledge on the matter, for the accomplishment of missions entrusted to them.

On his turn, the representative of SARPCCO's sub-regional bureau, the South African Poobalan Savari, who considered the course as corner-stone to make the region safer, said that they would share experiences for the success of the upgrading course.

Set to end next October 31, the course is gathering representatives of Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia and Swaziland.

Founded in August 1995, SARPCCO comprises Angola, South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. DR Congo is an observer member.
