Angola: Foreign Minister Briefed on 'Hashim Mbita' Project

Luanda — The minister of Foreign Affairs, Assunção dos Anjos, this Monday here received in an audience the Tanzanian brigadier Hashim Mbita, with whom he analysed, among other issues, the progress of the "Hashim Mbita" project, of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Brigadier Hashim Mbita, who is in the country since last Tuesday, is also expected to meet with some historic figures and sources of the Angolan nationalism.

The "Hashim Mbita" project was approved by the SADC summit of Heads of State and Government in August 2005, in Botswana.

The project aims at collecting, cataloguing and compiling the most important facts of the struggle by the population of the Southern African region foreseeing their emancipation.

It is divided into two phases: The first, set to end next November 10, is dedicated to the collection of proofs and documents from participants, organisations and parties in Southern Africa.

The second phase, still without a starting period, will include the collection of proof and documents of individuals, organisations and parties out of the SADC region, which took part in liberation struggles of the continent's Southern region.

These include those of the Republic of Congo, Cuba and Algeria.

In this phase, researchers of these countries are invited to contribute with their ideas and memories.

Brigadier Hashim Mbita was the executive secretary of the Liberation Committee of the Organisation of African Unity (OUA), for a period of 22 years, 1974 to 1992.

He also held diplomatic positions such as Tanzanian ambassador to Zimbabwe.
