Kenya: Aviation Workers Call Off Strike Over Hiring

13 October 2008

Nairobi — Aviation and Allied Workers Union on Monday withdrew a 21-day strike notice it issued on September 19.

In a letter dated October 7, it said: "The union, in its endeavour to promote industrial harmony, is withdrawing its strike notice."

The letter was signed by general secretary Jimi Masege. The union cited a written undertaking by Kenya Airways to the Ministry of Labour to limit hiring of foreign crew to 20 in the next two years as its reason.
