Lagos — NO fewer than 30 persons have lost their lives in the last three months in auto accidents in Jigawa State.
The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa, Alhaji Saleh Abubakar, said this in Dutse while speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN ).
The accidents, according to the police boss, are linked to excessive speeding and over loading.
He said the state government had resolved to tackle the menace at a recent meeting with the police, Federal Road Safety Commisiom (FRSC), Vehicle Inspection Office(VIO) and National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) officials.
According to him, the state government has directed that from Nov. 1, 2008, no vehicle should exceed the limit for passengers and goods.
Abubakar, who said the law would be applicable to all vehicles plying Jigawa routes, warned that there would be no sacred cows.
He urged drivers and passengers to comply with the directive for their safety.
