Minority spokesperson on communications and MP for Tamale South, Harunna Iddirisu, is calling on the National Communications Authority (NCA) to be more diligent by demanding quality service from the telecommunication companies.
He is also asking the NCA to call the service providers to order and demand from them an up to date technology of their services and equipment, as the world of technology is always changing.
Harunna said this in parliament when he was contributing to the second reading of the electronic Communications Bill and the National Communications Authority Bill, which is before the house for consideration.
He observed that the authority's inability to observe quality of service has led to the poor quality delivery by the providers, as they are not queried over the services they provide for Ghanaians.
According to him, number portability should by possible so that if someone has an MTN number, the person should also be able to keep the same number whilst with another network, so that one person would not use different numbers across the various networks.
He said the NCA must provide an up to date report of their activities, especially from the year 2006, to the Ministry of Communications so that it can be transferred to parliament.
The communications spokesperson noted that the fracas between the National Media Commission and the National Communications Authority must be resolved so that the distribution of radio frequency can be properly done.
He called for legislation to deal with cyber crime, which has been on the increase in the country lately.
