Nigeria: Nursing Council Places Embargo On Fresh Admissions

Jalingo — The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has placed embargo on admission of fresh students into the Taraba State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Jalingo. Commissioner for Health, Mr. David Tikon who disclosed this at the foundation laying ceremony of the college's permanent, recently, said the embargo had in fact been on for three years.

Tikon, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Siman Ambita said one of the reasons for the embargo was that the college was still operating from its temporary site at the Federal Medical Centre at the state capital.

He said when this was brought to the attention of the state Governor, he promptly approved the construction of the permanent site near the State Specialist Hospital.

He commended the Governor for procuring a 30-seater bus, books, practical and demonstration instruments for the college through the Health System Development Project 11.

In his remark, Governor Suntai said it would be irresponsibility to allow the Nursing and Midwifery Council to close down the College. He said government was willing to develop the college and charge the Nurses to be committed to service of humanity.
