Lagos — Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) an affiliate of National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG) Workers, has concluded plans to embark on a nationwide strike, beginning from this week.
PTD has also mobilised its members in the 36 states of the federation to down tools and cease lifting petroleum products from any depot in the country.
THISDAY gathered that the industrial action would be officially declared by PTD officials today, after a press conference, which the group would address on why the strike is necessary.
When contacted, NU-PENG Zonal Secretary, Tokunbo Korodo, confirmed the development, adding that the Federal Government had defaulted in the agreement reached between the two parties, which necessitated suspension of the strike, adding that strike is the only language that government understands, and as such, they have no choice than to down tools completely.
"Strike is the only language our government understands and we have to carry on," he said.
