Abuja — Nigeria and Cameroon have undertaken to abide by the International Court of Justice (ICJ)ruling on Bakassi to build on the peaceful resolution of the impasse between them.
They have also expressed commitment to collaborate towards rapid socio economic development of the area.
Nigeria recently handed over the disputed oil rich Bakassi Peninsula in Cross River State to Cameroon following an ICJ ruling to that effect.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ojo Maduekwe, said the two countries have had a reflection of commitment to work closely to abide by the ICJ ruling.
According to him, "from henceforth, Nigeria and Cameroon are determined to work towards building and broadening brotherly relationship," the minister said, adding that Cameroonian government has demonstrated this through grating permission to both Virgin Nigeria and Bellview Airlines to operate in their territories.
Maduekwe, who led the Nigeria Delegation to the fourth session of Nigeria-Cameron Joint Commission in Yaounde, further disclosed that "having adhered to the Green Tree Agreement, all humanitarian crisis faced by Nigerians in Cameroon will be addressed critically."
