Abuja — Minister of State for Transportation (Aviation), Mr Felix Hyet, yesterday told the Senator Heineken Lokpobiri-led Committee probing the Transportation sector from 1999 to 2007, that the aviation sector's internally generated revenue between January and September this year, was N14.2 billion.

Hyet also confirmed to the Committee that the $61 million in the Bilateral Air Services Account (BASA) Fund, had finally been released to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

The money had been in the purse of the Presidency in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), under the administration of former president Olusegun Obasanjo. He told the Committee that the practice of not keeping to procedure in the past had become a thing of the past.

According to him, for instance, N11 billion was withdrawn from the 2007 budget of the Ministry without any recourse to laid down procedure, making it difficult to trace the fund.

He told the Committee that releases were promptly made, leading to improved effectiveness in the administration of the Ministry.
