The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has short- listed Togolese striker, Emmanuel Seyi Adebayor, Al Ahly influential forward, Mohammed Aboutrika, Egyptian and Wigan hitman, Amir Zaki, Ivorien skipper, Didier Drogba and Black Stars of Ghana midfielder, Michael Essien for the Glo-CAF Award African Player of The Year. No Nigerian player made the top list that had two Egyptians.
The five nominees who will be going into the next balloting to pick the last three that will go for the award expected to hold in Cotonou, Benin Republic in a yet to be fixed date in December was announced yesterday in Lagos at the Glo-CAF Award media conference held at the Mike Adenuga Towers, the corporate headquarters of the Globacom Limited, the sole sponsor of the annual African best players award organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Meanwhile, in the other category to determine African home-based best player, Stephen Worgu of Enyimba was nominated alongside Egyptian striker, Mohammed Aboutrika, Flavio Xan of Angola and Hossan Hassan of Egypt. Frederick Kanoute of Mali is the reigning African players of the year.
