Africa: Kenyan Sheila is Out of BBA 3

14 October 2008

It is Sunday evening once again and anxiety is mounting, as Big Brother Africa 3 housemates up for eviction are awaiting their fate, the anxiety and nerve wrecking feeling is not only experienced in the house as followers of the M-Net reality show are also eagerly and anxiously waiting to see who will be leaving the house that week.

The housemates who are up for possible eviction seat there, with their hearts pounding, wishing for the moment to arrive sooner, for them to know if their hopes of winning the USD 100 000 (roughly P740 000) will come to an end on that Sunday or if they still have a chance of continuing with the game. The announcement, during the reality show's live eviction show seems to be taking too long.

The live eviction show, which takes roughly an hour, features live performance, and a brief show of the week's happenings/highlights in the house, and of course interviews with all evictees' countries in the likes of friends, family, and well-wishers. The amazing thing is, all of them always come out sharing the same view that their housemate is not leaving, and that they are the strongest players in the house, which is understandable, as the countries are expected to support their respective candidates.

The much-awaited announcement only comes towards the end of the show, after the week's head of house has informed the house, if he decided to replace one of the nominees and with whom. Then, interrupting the live show, presenter Kabelo "KB" Ngakane calls on the head of house to divulge his decision to pick the other housemate, as is the norm. The head of house for the week also the winner of this week's head of house task, Uganda's Morris Mugisha, calmly takes up the cue and tells the housemate that he is proud to announce that he had decided to replace Zambia's Takondwa Nkonjera (TK) with Angola's Ricardo Venancio, popularly referred to as Ricco in the house, and in the process makes an uncalled for comment 'so deal with it'. The comment of course puzzles housemates, as it is unclear whom it was meant for. Following the revelation, Ricco quickly rushes to pack his personal belongings, and joins the other three possible evictees - Botswana's Tawana Lebani, Kenya's Sheila Kwamboka, and Malawi's Hazel Warren. The four nervously await the announcement, some rubbing hands together. The moment of truth finally arrives, and for the first time, the possible evictees are four, KB decides to play the game differently. Instead of sending all the possible evictees to the glass house, he calls Hazel and Ricco's names, in that order, and tells each of them that they are safe. As they get some kind of relief, the other two are still left behind with the feeling of uncertainty as they are ordered to say their good-byes to their fellow housemates and go into the glasshouse. In the glass house, nervousness, between the two climbs to an all time high, with Sheila pacing around, while Tawana seats on the couch listening attentively. Holding the results in his hand, KB finally makes that announcement, the fourth housemate to leave the Big Brother house is and pauses, messing around with the already rising heartbeats. After playing his game for a little while, KB finally calls Sheila as the latest evictee she is ordered to leave the glass house immediately. With shock and disbelief, Sheila leaves the house and joins KB on stage, and actually admits to KB that she in shock that she is the one who was booted out, her mini-interview continues, and she utters quite a number of shocking statements, including that she was not romantically attracted to TK, but was just kissing him.

"Common I was in that house for one and halfmonths and I had to kiss someone," she casually says.

While poor TK is breaking down into tears, at the return of Tawana, which confirmed to him that Sheila was that week's evictee, the Kenyan woman was busy denouncing their short lived 'romance'.

As is the norm, Sheila is shown the nomination and is quite shocked that the Zimbabwean housemates, Munyaradzi Chidzonga, nominated her, but more shocked that Tawana and Hazel called her lazy.

"I came here to play the game. I didn't come here to work," she tries to justify.

Little does she know that the question about her laziness is coming her way, from viewers. In one of the viewers' selected questions someone asked her whether she is that lazy, or if it was just a strategy.

Ten countries voted Sheila out, while Tawana got only two votes to leave the house, with Hazel getting only one. Ricco once again did not get a single vote.
