Luanda — The Parliament team of the ruling MPLA party will focus its special attention on supervision of the Government's execution of the commitments contained in the Party's Electoral Programme, during 2008/2012 legislature.
"Due to its majority in the Parliament, the MPLA deputies will play a double role of support the Government and supervisor of good execution of the outlined and approved policies", said Wednesday in Luanda the chief of the party's Parliament bench, Bornito de Sousa.
Addressing a solemn session of the opening of the II legislative period, Bornito de Sousa explained that the bench will not only be restricted to applaud the Government but also to offer its willingness to cooperate and search for consensus, making Angola move forward, and if necessary using its majority representing powers.
On behalf of the Parliament team, the MP hailed the new Government, the President of Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, and the Prime-minister, António Paulo Kassoma, on dynamism and engagement proposed to execute the programme leading to well-being of the Angolan citizens and the country's development.
According to him, the people await from the Government a "pioneer" commitment to the organisation of the local power, combat to poverty and improving the people's living standards, as well as re-distribution of national income, enlargement of business opportunities and providing of the best administrative and judicial services.
In addition to the legislative activities, he said, the National Assembly should pay attention to the approval of the future legislation, the programmes and the State budget, participation at the forthcoming Presidential and the future local elections as well as the better functioning of the Parliament.
Bornito de Sousa also stated that during the legislative period, the MPs will follow up the holding of the World Diamond Summit, the XVIII Parity Parliamentary Assembly of the African, Caribbean and Pacific and European Union, VI Congress of MPLA, all in 2009, as well as the African Cup of the Nations (CAN/2010) in football.
