Nigeria: Delta Doctors Boost Governmental Healthcare

DELTA doctors in Diaspora, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), has keyed into the healthcare programme of the state government in an effort to boost the Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan-led government's healthcare delivery agenda.

President of the group, Dr. Isioma Okoba, in a chat with Vanguard, said as part of the efforts towards making qualitative health care available to the people and complementing the state government's healthcare programmes, the group had concluded plans to hold a health fair in Delta State between December 22 and 29.

Dr. Okoba posited that the group has resolved to partner with the Delta state government in the execution of its three point agenda towards the well-being of the people.

According to her, the health fair with the theme 'Building A Healthier Delta' has already sparked off discussions between the major stakeholders in the health sector and officials of the NGO based in Atlanta, USA, on modalities for successful hosting of the health fair.

She explained that during the one-week programme, medical experts who are members of the group will visit rural communities to deliver health talks and attend to individuals with various ailments .

The President of the group pointed out that special attention would be given to individuals suffering from ailments such cancer, high blood pressure, eye-related problems, ulcer, malaria and other diseases ravaging rural communities.

Dr. Okoba added that the health fair would hold in several communities across the state, including Onicha Ugbo, Issels-Uku, Ezi and Oghara, during which hospital equipment would be presented to community based hospitals and health centers in the three senatorial districts of the state.
