The two products were declared fully protected last 06 October in Yaounde.

The people of Oku in the North West province and those of Penga in the Littoral now have products which they can claim fully belong to them. Full property rights were accorded the two products, Oku Honey and Penga pepper corn respectively last October, 06 in Yaounde following the signing of an agreement between the French Secretary of State for External Trade, Anne Marie Idrac and the Director General of the African Intellectual Property Organisation, Paulin Edou Edou.

The Oku Honey has as specificity the white colour obtained from bees that feed on specific nectar in specific areas. The white honey is produced usually during defined seasons which enable the flowering of some specific trees. The honey is marketed in Cameroon and beyond by the Oku Honey Company Ltd. The company equally process and produce honey by product in bulk, notably beeswax which it processes into shoe polish. The beeswax both organic and inorganic and the honey are all in exportation

The Penja peppercorn is cultivated thanks to the rich volcanic soils of the area. It is peculiar in character and flavour, cultivated according to the ancestral traditions of the people. Eight type of Penga Peppercorn exist. They are better known by their French appellations: 3 poivres de Penja 250 g and 80 g; poivre blac de Penja 250g and 80 g; poivre blac fume 80 g, poivre noir de Penja 250 g and 80g, and poivre vert de Penja lyophilise.

Packaged in sachets and in plastic tins, the little grain peppercorn is used as ingredient in several dishes, pork, chicken, fish, beef and "bush meat".

The signing of the agreement last October 06 do not only valorise the two Cameroonian products and protect them but brings them into the mainstream of the capacity building project on trade implemented by the Ministries of Economy, Finance, Industries and the French Development Agency.
