Ghana: Asantehene Leaves for West Indies

Kumasi. — OTUMFUO OSEI Tutu II, the Asantehene and occupant of the Golden Stool, has accepted an invitation to visit Barbados from October 22 to25 this year, to receive an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws (LLD), from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus.

According to the programme drawn for the Asantehene, he would unveil a cornerstone plaque at the site of the university's new administration building, and also plant a tree there.

According to a press statement, issued and signed by the Media Relations Manager of the Manhyia Palace, Mr. G. B. Osei-Antwi, Otumfuo Osei Tutu would pay a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Barbados during the visit.

The statement also indicated that the Asantehene would be accompanied on the visit by some chiefs, the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the acting Chief of Staff at Manhyia Palace, Mr. Kofi Owusu Boateng, among other officials.
