Luanda — The performance of women at all levels of the State and Government decision making organs will be decisive for the country's development and wellbeing of the citizens, in view of their condition as workers, wives and mothers.
This was expressed Wednesday in Luanda by the MPs and members of the recently appointed Government, on the fringes of the solemn ceremony of opening of the Angolan parliament's legislative term, following the parliamentary election of September 5 this year.
MP Carolina Cerqueira said in the coming four years she will fight for the satisfaction of the basic needs of the Angolan people, particularly concerning health, job, national reconstruction, preservation of peace and approval of laws leading to the affirmation of the country within the African and world context.
She said she will work hard to guarantee and control of human rights in Angola, making of the country an example to emulate in this chapter.
In her turn, her fellow-parliamentarian, Cândida Maria Guilherme Narciso, appointed governor of north-eastern Lunda Norte province, spoke out for the engagement in the promotion of the wellbeing.
She held this conviction, based on goals established in the governance programme for the 2008/2012 period, approved upon consultation with the people and emphasizes the sustainable development of the country and consolidation of peace.
Likewise, the Environment minister, Maria de Fátima Jardim, appealed to women to engage in political activities in order to contribute to the consolidation of democracy and development.
She recognised that the significant number of women in the decision making organs is of extreme importance as it guarantees gender equilibrium.
To her, the fact that women play two roles (family and society) elevates the importance of their performance in all areas of the national affairs, to the benefit of the citizens.
In her turn, the deputy minister of Health, Teresa de Jesus Cohen dos Santos, said the new legislative term will contribute to the full assumption of the Angola people's sovereignty.
