Luanda — The Angolan Ministry of National Defence Thursday in Luanda accredited major Patrick de Smedt as new military defence attaché of the Belgium embassy to Angola.
Held at International Relations Department, the ceremony, which gathered officers of the angolan Armed Forces (FAA), was presided over by the institution's director, the admiral André Gaspar Mendes de Carvalho "Miau".
After welcoming the newly accredited attaché, admiral Miau expressed, on behalf of the Angolan Defence Ministry, his availability to cooperate with Belgium officer, taking into account the need to increase the cooperation ties in defence domain between the two countries.
In his turn, major Patrick, who voiced excellent the cooperation ties between the two defence ministries and the armed forces, considered the relations of special importance", due to the levels they have achieved.
Born on 22 August, 1959 in Waarschoot city, Belgium, the officer Patrick de Smedt joined his country's armed forces in 1978, having undergone training in the military specialities of logistics, statistics and administration.
He was also, during his military career, chief of platoon of rolling stock, public market control programme, supplying department commander and also official in charge of training in the area of supplying, maintenance and logistic operation and logistic school in Kinshasa, DR Congo.
