Angola: Fair to Help Reduce House Deficit - Minister

Luanda — Angolan minister of Industry, Joaquim David, said Thursday in Luanda that the International Civil Construction, Public Works and Security Fair (ConstroiAngola) is opportune and responds to the country's building materials needs.

Speaking at the opening of the "ConstróiAngola", the minister said the injection of construction material into the local market has the advantage of helping reduce the house deficit facing the country.

To Joaquim David, the fair also responds to the interest of the Angolan Government and its programme that includes the rehabilitation of roads, bridges, electrical systems, water abstraction and supplying systems and construction of one million houses, which is attainable through the supply of construction materials.

On the other hand, the minister welcomed the exhibitors and other industry operators with a capacity to produce or sell construction materials.

He said the exhibitors will find in the Angolan Government's programme opportunity to show their potential.

According to the minister, the fair is taking place at a moment of particular importance to the country, despite the financial and energetic crises affecting some countries of the world.

He recalled that Angola is experiencing a high economic growth, as a result of the environment of peace it is enjoying.

The minister praised the vision of the participants that enabled the 5th edition of the fair with a larger number than the preceding year. There are 270 firms attending this year's edition, against 230 of 2007.

Joaquim David also praised for the technological innovations and the 50 percent expansion of the exhibition area that rose from 5,000 square metres to 10,000.

ConstyroiAngola is a joint venture between the firm Arena Direct and Luanda International Fair. It is held in October every year, since its first edition of 2003.
