Angola: BDA Credits Boost Potato Production

Kuito — Angola Development Bank (BDA) project of credit for peasants in the country will rise the production of potato in the district of Chinguar, 75 kilometres southwest of Kuito city, central Bie province.

Speaking to Angop on Friday, Alfeo Vinevala, one of Chinguar's major potato farmers, said he got Usd 8,000 from BDA, which pushed his productivity from 60 up to more than 1,500 tonnes.

The farmer mentioned the provinces of Luanda, Moxico, Kuando Kubango and Benguela as the main markets for his harvests.

He also mentioned the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) and members of the people as absorbing his production.

According to him, he has been trying to get loans from other commercial banks to purchase a deep freezer for conservation of the products.

Chinguar administrator, Maria Madalena, praised BDA initiative and stressed that this is contributing for the emergence of small businesses and consequent jobs, thus improving families living.

She appealed to other such institutions based in the region to follow suit and help boost farm production and thus contribute to the country's development.
