Angola: Ruling MPLA Praises Unanimous Vote On GURN Abolishment

17 October 2008

Luanda — The ruling MPLA party this Friday praised the unanimous vote of MPs to the draft diploma that abolishes the Government of Unity and National Reconciliation (GURN), considering that the gesture reflects the top priority assigned to the country's interests.

"I believe that it shall not always be like this, or otherwise, there shall be occasions in which we will vote differently, but sense of concert (which enables to reach an agreement on the vote) is always recommendable whenever possible", declared the leader of the parliamentary seat of MPLA, Bornito de Sousa, at the final of the voting process.

To the parliamentarian, the voting unanimous vote shows the capacity of MPs to overcome the idea of the past, with regard to the passage that "the opposition is only good when they vote against everything, a party that is always against the government or the president (...)".

"If we place the interests of Angola above everything else, we will verify that, sometimes, we are closer, more united than the difference that might exist", stressed Bornito de Sousa, to whom that unanimity is a gesture in this sense.

MPs to the National Assembly this Friday vote, by unanimity, for the abolishment of the Government of Unity and National Reconciliation, created under the Lusaka Protocol.
