Nigeria: Suswam Opens Darts Confab

Lagos — Benue state governor, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Suswam, Saturday, declared open the Darts Federation of Nigeria Games and Conference holding at the Makurdi Club 1930, and re-emphasized the commitment of his administration to promote sports continuously until Benue attains its glorious position in the country.

Governor Suswam acknowledged the role played by sports in uniting the country and commended the Darts Federation of Nigeria for making the game popular, especially among clubs.

The governor enjoined participants to the game across the country to exhibit high sense of sportsmanship as well as take time out to experience other aspects of life of Benue people so that they would go back with good memories and prayed against any move that would necessitate regretting their trip to Makurdi.

The games tagged 'Makurdi 2008' is featuring over 76 clubs affiliated to the Darts Federation with players competing in singles and doubles.

Also speaking at the opening ceremony, the National President of Darts Federation of Nigeria, Dr. Solomon Yahaya said, members of Makurdi Club had good record of active participation in the game and thanked the governor for his interest in the development of the sport in the state.

In his remarks, the President of Makurdi Club 1930, Mr. Emmanuel Atine said, the club had in the past participated in national darts competition and won laurels.
