As part of their efforts to boost and create awareness about the vast tourism potentials in Nigeria , Media 15900 and TV enterprises in partnership with Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc, Virgin Nigeria, among others, recently launched the maiden edition of Celebrity VIP Weekend in Lagos.

The managing director of Media15900, Toye Arulogun, explained that Celebrity VIP Weekend is a tourism television project, a first of its kind which is aimed at giving 10 ordinary Nigerians, on a monthly basis, an opportunity to live the lifestyle of a celebrity, while also visiting different choice tourism destinations all over Nigeria in order to enable them learn what Nigeria has got to offer the world in terms of tourism.

Speaking at the cocktail and official media presentation of the 10 maiden winners in Lagos , Arulogun stated: "The project was conceived as a Nigerian domestic tourism stimulant and awareness booster based on the widely accepted fact that Nigerians do not know much of their country, therefore, do not engage much in travelling around the country. With culture and tourism as a major revenue earner for the nation, Media 15900 is on a mission to fill this information vacuum and commence the promotion of a Nigerian domestic tourism culture and consciousness, using the power of television".

According to the organisers, "What interested members of the public need to do is text 'VIP Weekend' to a given text code and 10 winners will be selected monthly via an automated draw, to enjoy an all-expenses paid weekend at a choice tourism location in Nigeria, among other celebrity treatments".

With Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc as the official insurers and Virgin Nigeria as official airliners, some of the first winners include Reverend Solomon Okoro from Abia State, Chris Kennedy from Delta State, Henry Gajere from Kaduna State, and others who were said to have been touring different tourism sites around the FCT in a limousine.
