Kigali — The architectural design of the Kigali Conventional Center (KCC), planned to be constructed in Kacyiru near the Ministry of Justice offices has been completed, The New Times can reveal.

Leopold Mukama, Managing Director of Ultimate Concepts Limited, said the architectural studies were carried out by the Germany company, Spacial Solution Consultants with the support of consultants who specialise in hotel concepts and designs.

"The study contains all the details that refine the general ideas into design concepts including specific materials, the beginnings of a floor plan and some initial elevations of what the buildings will look like from the outside among others," Mukama revealed in an interview on Thursday.

Accordingly, the study design has now been awarded to prospective engineers with the tender offer expected in November.

Currently construction company, NPD-COTRACO s.a.r.l, has been contracted to excavate the land.

"[NPD] is being supervised by Spacial Solution Consultants and I think they are in their final stages," Mukama said.

He explained that the process of construction is set to commence in February next year (2009) and expected to end in April 2011.

"The centre will have three components; a Five Star Hotel with 292 rooms, a conference centre with a capacity of 2,500 and a five building information technology office park," Mukama said.

The development comes at a time after the New Century Development Limited, a Hong Kong registered company unveiled a plan of constructing another Five Star Hotel in the heart of Kigali City. The hotel will be located at the current Jali Club and expected to cost $40m (Frw22bn).
