NATIONAL Directorate of Employment (NDE), has begun training programmes for un-employed graduates and other unemployed Nigerians especially women to empower them towards self-employment.

The training programmes which are being conducted by the Lagos office of NDE, have fifty unemployed graduates undergoing training under the "Start Your Own Business" (SYOB) scheme and one hundred women being trained on events management.

Speaking to Sunday Vanguard about the training programmes, Lagos State Co-ordinator of NDE, Mrs V. A Awosemo, said: "The programme is a double training programmes. We are having a training on how to start your own business which is also known as SYOB. This is taking place simultaneously at the same time with a programme on women employment cooperative.

We are giving training on event management and basic catering training for three weeks. At the end of it all, we expect that they would be able to handle basic jobs on hall decorations, event management and catering services. The training exercise is part of our ongoing training programme for the year.

These two programmes are under the training departments, the small scale enterprises. We have SYOB scheme, we have women employment programme. Under the women employment programme, we are going to train a hundred women and under the SYOB programme, we are training an initial fifty unemployed graduates.
