Kampala — Although his contract with Super League table leaders Simba SC runs out in two weeks' time, Sam Ssimbwa has denied holding talks with any other club.
KCC FC official Badru Kigwe was quoted in the press yesterday as saying that he had met Ssimbwa over a possible move to the league defending champions. "I have just read reports saying that I met KCC officials to discuss my move to Lugogo. There is no truth in those reports. As far as I am concerned, I am still Simba coach," Ssimbwa said yesterday.
Ssimbwa, who doubles as the Cranes assistant coach said he was still committed to his job with the army side but refused to divulge his next move after the contract expires. "I can't reveal my plans now," he stated. Ssimbwa joined Simba last year shortly after helping Express FC stave off relegation and guiding them to Kakungulu Cup victory over KCC FC, the team he has been linked with.
Those past heroics coupled with Simba's recent impressive performances, have made Ssimbwa most sought-after coach in Ugandan football. "I can't deny receiving offers from several clubs but I have rejected them. I can't hold talks with any other club when I am still under contract at Simba," Ssimbwa said.
About his side's loss to Police FC last Friday, Ssimbwa said he was yet to figure out what befell his charges. He said: "We were the best team on the day. We passed the ball brilliantly and enjoyed better ball possession but I am still wondering how we lost that game."
After a fine run of nine unbeaten league games, Simba finally tumbled, losing at home 1-2 to Police FC. Meanwhile, Cranes substitute goalkeeper Hannington Kalyesubula has signed a two-year contract with SC Villa. Club secretary Edward Luyimbazi Mugalu confirmed Kalyesubula's return to Villa Park after spending three years with Ethiopian side St George FC.
Elsewhere, Villa and Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) are in a silent battle for Iceland based midfielder Augustine Nsumba.
Initially Villa and IBV had an understanding that would see Nsumba play for Joogos every time he returned to Uganda but URA's recent bid for thehas jeopardised the Villa-IBV agreement. Nsumba is on a three-month holiday.
