20 October 2008

South Korea's Vice Minister for Public Administration and Security, Jung Jang-Sik, yesterday in Seoul, said that Nigeria and Korea must continue to strengthen their ties by complementing their economic structures.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of an economic development strategy programme organised for Nigerian government officials, the Vice Minister said that considering the current globalisation, "there is no doubt that we will see growing interdependency among countries all over the world".

He said that the programme was organised for the officials to examine and evaluate Korea's approaches to economic development and to provide various references in order to achieve Nigeria's economic development goals effectively.

The Vice Minister, who is also the President of Central Officials Training Institute (COTI), urged the participants to see the training as a catalyst for hardwork and a new chapter in Nigeria - Korea relationship.

Responding on behalf of the participants, Alhaji Isa Husaini, who is also a deputy director of marketing News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), thanked the government of Korea for giving them the opportunity to share in their economic development that made the country the 13th economy in the world.

He noted that Korea now has a per capita income of over 20,000 dollars (N2.3 million) from 80 dollars (N9360) in 1960.

He called on Korean business community to invest in the Nigerian economy especially in the area of infrastructure. (NAN)
