Nigeria: Gov Sambo Replies Critics Over Water Projects

Following a letter addressed to Kaduna State Governor Namadi Sambo by a group of Kaduna stakeholders led by, Barrister Sadau Garba, calling for the suspension of all water projects contracts in the state, particularly the Zaria Water Project and the establishment of a commission of inquiry to probe awards of water contracts in the state between 1999 to date, and promising to take legal action against the state if its prayers are not addressed within 30 days, Governor Mohammed Namadi Sambo has replied, debunking the group's position, stating that all due process related to the project were dully followed, devoid of any shady deal.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Umar Sani, the governor told LEADERSHIP SUNDAY in an exclusive interview "There is nothing shady about the processes of awarding contract for the Zaria water works and any other water projects in the state.

These contracts were advertised and due process followed and the best tender won.

On the Kaduna stakeholders demand for a probe of water contracts he said that even if government constituted a probe into the matter, the opposition would not accept it.

It would be recalled that the group wrote Governor Namadi Sambo, a letter which was made available to newsmen in Kaduna, early this week demanding the suspension of all water contracts awarded in the state and calling for the setting up of a commission of inquiry to probe all water contacts awarded in the state adding that it will take legal action against the government after 30 days of no action of their demands as stated in their letter.
