Luanda — The Camões Institute, linked to the Portuguese Cultural Centre, will this Monday open the Second Cycle of Angolan Cinema with the movie "Na Cidade Vazia".
The cycle which will include short and feature films and documentaries to proceed until October 24 (Friday), ANGOP has learnt.
During the week, movie lovers will be able to go to the venue and watch productions that have been shown in some African festivals, such as the films "Na Cidade Vazia" by Maria João Ganga, "Comboio da Canhoca" by Orlando Fortunato, "Homem Enterrado Vivo" and "Pelo Silêncio das Armas" by Nguxi dos Santos.
The films "Mucubal Muchimba" and "Kimbanda Kambia" by Ademir Ferreira and Ruy Duarte de Carvalho respectively, as well as "Encurralada" by Alberto Botelho are also on the list of the event.
"Na Cidade Vazia" (Empty City), which will be screened at the opening of the event (Oct. 20), was produced in 2004 and portrays a group of children that move to Luanda (country's capital) due to the civil war, accompanied by a nun.
"Comboio da Canhoca" (Train to Canhoca), scheduled for October 21, is about a group of Angolan prisoners, during the colonial period, who were shut in a train wagon en route to Luanda.
On October 22 will be shown the film "Homem Enterrado Vivo" (Man buried alive) and "Pelo Silêncio das Armas" (Silence of the guns) produced in 1997, are documentaries about the war in Luanda after the 1992 elections.
Two historic documentaries "Mucubal Muchimba", (1976) and "Kimbanda Kambia" (1979) are scheduled for October 23.
"Encurralada" (2007), a movie based on true story about domestic violence is reserved for the last day (24).
Camões Institute, in partnership with the Angolan Institute of Cinema, Audiovisual and Multimédia (IACAM), organised the first event of this kind last January.
