Zimbabwe: Dynamos Shift Attention to Domestic Soccer

Harare — NOW that they are out of the African Champions League, Dynamos will shift all their attention to the domestic league where they will play Gunners in a CBZ Premier League soccer match at Rufaro on Sunday, writes Augustine Hwata.

The Harare giants still have a backlog of games to clear as they fell behind the other teams because of their commitments in the African Champions League and will have to play mid-week games to catch up.

In fact, Dynamos should have played one of the mid-week games either tomorrow or on Thursday but have been given time to rest as they are only expected to arrive from Cameroon today.

On Sunday, DeMbare lost 4-0 to Cotonsport Garoua of Cameroon to end their African Champions League dream in the semi-finals and now they have to turn their focus to the domestic game.

It's ironic that Dynamos will relaunch their bid to reclaim the title by facing one of their most famous sons, Moses Chunga, who is now coach at Gunners.

A win for Gunners - one of the best-run teams in the Premiership and who, in Ovidy Karuru and Zhaimu Jambo have two of the best players in the league - will help them ease their relegation worries.

On Tuesday next week, Dynamos meet Shooting Stars in a rescheduled match tentatively set for Rufaro.

The CBZ League will see a full programme this weekend, as there are no commitments for either Dynamos or the Warriors.

In another game on the cards, struggling former champions CAPS United meet Lengthens in what could be a repeat of the ABC Sup8r final on Saturday.

The league game will be at Gwanzura with Lengthens certainly eager to revenge their controversial 1-2 defeat in the cup final last month.

Across town at Dzivaresekwa on the same day, CAPS FC, who are now bottom of the log, meet Shooting Stars.

On Sunday, leaders Monomotapa travel to Mutare for a date with Eastern Lions who have never lost a league match at home since coming into the Premiership.

In Kwekwe, Lancashire Steel play Underhill in a game midfielder Farayi Vimisayi is confident they will win.

Vimisayi played a crucial role in his team's 2-1 win over Shooting Stars at Gwanzura on Sunday and now believes they will survive relegation.

"We had a spate of injuries to key players and the way our club changed coaches did not help us either.

"I have also recovered from a groin injury that has been troubling me for the greater part of the season and I believe that we will survive relegation," said Vimisayi.

Lancashire Steel coach Innocent Chogugudza, who appears to be getting his cards right in Kwekwe, will be out to make it three league wins in row following the 3-2 victory over Masvingo two weeks ago.

Chogugudza is one of the promising young coaches on the domestic scene and his good manners, even in defeat, are a credit to his chosen field dominated by volatile characters.
