The State Security Service (SSS) yesterday said that it arrested Mr. Jonathan Elendu, the owner of Elendureports, an on-line publication, to answer questions bordering on national security.

Mt. Elendu was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Saturday night while arriving from the United States of America, where he is based.

LEADERSHIP had on Sunday reported the arrest.

Elendu was on Saturday night moved to the SSS headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, and was only interrogated yesterday.

SSS spokesman, Mr. Kenechukwu Onyeogu, who spoke to LEADERSHIP yesterday, said that the security agency believes in the rule of law and would not take any action on the matter until the publisher was given a fair chance to defend himself.

His words: "Mr. Jonathan Elendu was invited today to answer questions on matters concerning national security which has to do wtih his reports.

"We are following the rule of law in whatever we are doing. After the question and answer, we can now establish the facts why he was invited."

LEADERSHIP gathered last night that other on-line publishers who are abroad run the risk of being arrested on their return to Nigeria.

It could not be established, as at press time, if SSS would be charging Mr. Elendu to court or if he would be held indefinitely.
