21 October 2008

Tunis — Results of a recent survey carried out by the Tunisian- American Chamber of Business (TACC), reveal that 89% of American investors in Tunisia are satisfied with the profitability of their businesses.

The results of a survey carried out in July/August 2008 on some 60 American enterprises operating in Tunisia were presented Monday by the president of the Tunisian American Chamber of Commerce, Dr Mondher Ben Ayed.

The survey, in which 36% of US companies working in Tunisia took part, aimed at measuring their degree of satisfaction, essentially in terms of the profitability of their businesses.

89% of the participating companies believe that their decision to invest in Tunisia was good and profitable and 72% of the companies that were polled, believe that Tunisia has a strong human potential conducive to foreign investment.

In the same vein, 79% of the companies express the view that they are ready to increase their investments in the country if given the chance. 78% of the businesses say they will not hesitate to recommend other American enterprises to invest in Tunisia.

In the words of Dr Ben Ayed, the survey has shown that "Tunisia passed the exam with flying colors, thanks to its economic strategy and to the many efforts exerted to improve its business climate".

The survey also identified the areas where improvements still had to be made, according to Tunisia-based American businesses.

Tunisia has ranked first in Africa in terms of economic competitiveness, according to the recently-published 2008-2009 World Economic Forum Report.
