Luanda — The image of Angola from 1991, with highlight to Bié Province, where the war was escalating, and Luanda as the destination for many displaced people from other parts of the country, is portrayed in the movie "Na cidade vazia" (Empty City), shown at the opening of the Angolan cinema cycle, on Monday.
The producer of the film, Maria João Ganga, shows that while in Bié Province the climate of war was being strongly felt, the capital city was under curfew, whereby people were not allowed to move about late in the evening.
In that environment, Ndala, an orphan boy from Bié arrives in Luanda with a nun and runs away at the airport, thus starting a new journey in the city.
Meanwhile the nun looks for him, Ndala learns the capital city's dynamics, moving from street to street.
Sadly the young man suffers a tragic death at the end of the movie.
This is the second event of the Angolan cinema cycle, which is promoted by the Portuguese Camões Institute and Angola Cinema, Audiovisual and Multimedia Institute (IACAM).
The event will happen until Friday.
This Tuesday, the movie "O Comboio da Canhoca (2004)" (Train from Canhoca), by Angolan producer Orlando Fortunato will be shown at 06:30 pm.
