Nigeria: Akpabio Assures Investors of Safety of Property, Investment

Akwa Ibom — Government has assured foreign investors of safety of property and investment, saying it is ready to partner with genuine investors to accelerate its industrialization policy to reduce the high rate of unemployment and poverty among the populace.

Governor Godswill Akpabio who stated this when an Italian - owned Somi Costruzioni Nigeria Limited paid him an official visit, noting that it was the government's vision to attract reputable foreign investors to help in transforming the state economy.

The governor, who promised to assist the foreign companies in any area, said "all request for land will be granted."and expressed strong confidence in the company's credibility because of the recommendation of Rev. Fr. Donatus Ukpong.

Chief Akpabio therefore directed the Commissioner for lands and Town Planning to advise him on available land for allotment to the company, requesting Akwa Ibom Industrial, Investment and Promotion Council (AKIIPOC) to liaise with the company to ensure its speedy take off in the state.

Governor Akpabio, told representatives of the Company to feel free to do business in the state as government has put a security machinery in place to guarantee safety of lives and property of the residents,however observing that the Niger Delta crisis has posed a lot of challenges to the people and the government, regreting that while initially some people fought for the liberation of the area others now engage in all forms of criminality ranging from kidnapping to militancy.

Despite the crisis, Chief Akpabio assured them of the safety of their property and investments, adding that government would create enabling environment for them.

The Company's Commercial Manager, Engr. Costanzo Cario told the governor that the company has head office at San Valentino , Italy , with Nigeria 's office at Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Engr. Cario explained that the company specializes in industrial plants erection particularly cement industry, power, energy, environmental food and petrochemical industries.

Engr. Cario who came in company of the company's president, Marino Pelaccia and administration manager, Mr Mirko Pelaccia appealed for the provision of land in Itiam Industrial layout.
