Yola — Adamawa state government weekend in Yola signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with United States of America as a partner and a co-investor in the multimillion Dollars project of hydro- power generation.

State Governor, Murtala Nyako appended to the deal on behalf of the Adamawa state government while Dr. Reneen Robin Sandras, the U.S Ambassador to Nigeria, signed on behalf of the American government.

The U.S Ambassador stressed the importance of power in the development of any economy, saying that her country would assist any project that is intended to better the economic fortunes of the people.

"It is the hope of the American government that the execution of the power energy project would address the industrial needs of the people of Adamawa State and indeed Nigeria," she said.

Sandras commended the efforts of the Adamawa state government for its desire at generating electricity power for the development and progress of his people, saying that Adamawa was the first state in the country that her country would partner with to generate independent hydro-electricity.

Responding, Governor Murtala Nyako said he was pleased that the dream to generate power for the state has finally come to reality, adding that the physical presence of the ambassador was a testimony to the success of the project.

Nyako commended the American government for the interest it has shown on the power project, adding that apart from electricity; water from the dam would also be harnessed to boost irrigated farming.

He said United States volunteered to fund the feasibility study for the upgrade of the Kiri Dam to boost hydro-electricity power project for the state.
