Brussels — The 18-year old student by name of Fátima Mendes won the "Miss Angola Benelux 2009" beauty pageant that was recently held in Brussels, Belgium, informed Tuesday the Angolan diplomatic representation to that country.

Fátima Mendes becomes the fourth Miss Angola Benelux, in replacing Ana Rodrigues, winner of the last edition held in the Netherlands.

A student of the cosmetic course, the new Miss Angola Benelux is 1, 69 centimetres tall and weighs 50 kilogrammes. Fátima Mendes beat the eight contestants to the event and shall represent Benelux in the finals of the Miss Angola contest, to be held next December in Angola.

Enlivened by the musicians Ary and Dom Kikas, the event happened at the Saint Michel Theatre, in Brussels. It was attended by members of the Angolan diplomatic mission accredited to Belgium and European Union, as well as by the diplomatic body.

Benelux is a union amongst three countries, and each one has part of its name in the full denomination: Belgium (BE), the Netherlands (NE) and Luxemburg (Lux).
