Angola: Aids Cure Woman Arrested

Luanda — An Angolan woman who claims to have the cure for aids was caught red-handedly Wednesday in Luanda by the National Police, Angop learned from a police source.

According to the head of Department of Inspection of the Economics Police, Cristiano Francisco, the woman, Inês Diogo da Silva, 48, from Luanda's high density suburb of Palanca, who claims to have the cure for aids, was arrested while illegally practising.

At detention, the source added, Inês Diogo was consulting three female patients.

The police inspector told Angop that the woman will soon be taken to court for trial for a crime that can place her behind bars and a corresponding fine.

According to the officer, the police also seized from her home a stethoscope, syringes, several drugs, a note-book with names and payment figures.

She told the police she started the activity two years ago and has so far cured more than 80 patients.

In the treatment, she said she uses a mixture of egg and garlic she administers to the patient in the morning, two hours before an injection of Penicilin, B12 and B1. She administers a cashew-tree leaves tea when the patient is having diarrhoea.

She also said the treatment lasts 15 days and can cost as much as Usd 600.Born in Pungo Andongo, northern Malanje province, Inês Diogo said she took the curing gift from her ancestors, having held contacts with the National Institute for Hiv/Aids to get registered.
