The Rivers State Executive Council has directed that contracts for the renovation of primary and secondary schools be awarded without delay.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr Ogbonna Nwuke, told journalists at the end of the State Executive Council meeting that the move was in line with the state of emergency declared in the education sector by the present administration.
Nwuke said so far, the council was satisfied with the transparent manner the process of bidding for the reconstruction of schools was handled by the Ministry of Education.
The commissioner said the council also resolved that the Rumuola axis of the state capital be made an economic hub, as soon as the ongoing dualisation work on its road was concluded.
"We are encouraged by the fact that Rivers people appreciate what we are doing to return Port Harcourt to its original master plan.
"We would stop at nothing to ensure that the city regains its aesthetics," Nwuke said.
The council, the commissioner said, was also satisfied with the progress of work on the various projects in the state, particularly reconstruction work at the Mile 3/Ada George/Airport road.
He said that the programme for the celebration of the one year anniversary of the administration of Chibuike Amaechi would start on Saturday.
Nwuke said the event would begin with a stakeholders' forum where Amaechi would give account of his stewardship to the people.
The commissioner said the council was appreciative of the support of the people in the last one year and enjoined them not to relent.
