Tanzania: New Stadium to Host DSM Derby

Tanzania Football Federation's secretary general Fredrick Mwakalebela and information officer Florian Kaijage exchange views during yesterday's press conference in Dar es Salaam.

Mwakalebela announced that the new National Stadium would be used for a match between city rivals Young Africans and Simba on Sunday.

The government has confirmed the new 60,000-seater stadium will host the eagerly-awaited clash of city rivals Simba and Young Africans on Sunday.

As a result, the TFF announced the entrance fees for the match of the season yesterday after getting the government's confirmation.

Ticket prices for VIP-A stands has been fixed at Sh20, 000, VIP-B at Sh15, 000 and Sh10, 000 for the VIP- C, while prices for orange and blue stands have been pegged at Sh5, 000 and Sh3, 000 respectively.

The tickets would go on sale at various centres in Dar es Salaam from tomorrow.

TFF's secretary general Fredrick Mwakalebela said as many fans as possible will be able to watch the match owing to the stadium's enormous size.

"It is ideal for hosting a clash of this magnitude unlike the old National Stadium which is tiny and unsuitable to host any big game," said Mwakalebela.

The Director of Sports Leonard Thadeo cautioned the federation to be vigilant against vandalism.

"We are not expecting any sort of vandalism reminiscent of last year when the national team played Uganda in a friendly", said Thadeo.

But Mwakalebela assured the government that stewards will be positioned in all essential areas to keep an eye on potential vandals.

Mwakalebela also said the match would be preceded by a special encounter between Members of

Parliament, Bunge FC, and Albino FC, a team composed of albinos.

Other teams will play their penultimate half-way round matches on Saturday.

Simba and Yanga have not met at the new venue before as the Kagame Cup classification match in July, which was to bring them face to face at the glamorous stadium for the first time, was cancelled.

Simba have pitched camp at Kigamboni, while Yanga are in Pemba putting final touches on their preparations before the encounter of the year.
