Residents of Kabala have received training from the Matei multipurpose cooperative society on the use of both male and female condoms in an effort to help reduce transmission of HIV/AIDS in the region.

According to UNAIDS, Koinadugu district has the highest rate of HIV prevalence in Sierra Leone with 3.0%.

Matcops, in collaboration with Voice of Women, held a one-day information session on HIV/AIDS prevention talk, including how to use condoms to save lives, with funds provided by UNFPA and ministry of health.

Speaking at the Kabala government hospital director of Matcops Mamusu Kamara said since Koinadugu district has the highest rate of HIV prevalence in the country, people must come out to do the HIV/AIDS test.

"It is time for people in Kabala to come out in large numbers to know their HIV/AIDS status. If people know their status and get the appropriate treatment they can live long and lead productive lives," said Mamusu Kamara

Female police officer working at the family support unit in Kabala, Hawanatu Fullah said "it is high time parents told their children the causes of the HIV/AIDS disease and how it could be prevented."

She proclaimed that frantic efforts were being made to sensitize people that come to the family support unit on the dangers of HIV/AIDS and the use of condoms.
