Uganda: No SMS for Morris?

opinion

Kampala — I am so annoyed - seriously. Morris is in the Big Brother house outdoing himself to represent us well, yet we haven't sent messages in his support. Where is the love, folks? I mean that trademark Ugandan love that foreigners praise us for.

Why should we give it to foreigners and deny it our own? The Ugandan has already gone a long way into bringing home the M-Net reality show's staked jackpot of sh170m. He has spent 61 days on the show and evaded eviction five times. A sixth housemate will be evicted on Sunday, but it's not our boy.

He has won head-of-house tasks twice in a row and taken the spotlight as leader during the just-ended UN campaign against poverty in Africa.

Morris has not only represented us well, but is also a top contender for the jackpot. Can you imagine how far he would go if only we started sending messages onto the television screen that influence Africa to look at him as a winner?

Out of the remaining seven housemates, Morris has the least number of supportive SMS. Interestingly, most of them are not from Uganda. Only about one supportive message from Uganda trickles in after about six from other countries in support of our boy for us.

Even Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria, Namibia and Ghana, countries whose housemates have been evicted, are sending more messages than Uganda. What happened to the patriotism?

The reason Ricco is doing well is that Angolans are relentlessly sending in messages, hence, viewers elsewhere imagine Ricco is great and send more in his support, ultimately keeping him on the show. It's not yet late for us to style up.

Uganda has arguably some of Africa's biggest spendthrifts, who can afford at least two SMS daily. If Zimbabweans who are suffocating from inlation can afford, why not us? Just send to 6626 something like, "We love u Morris " or anything supportive. Viewers elsewhere will be influenced and ultimately vote Morris winner.

Some have issues with him because he is not a fast speaker. So they send negative messages, influencing others elsewhere to follow suit.

How about cutting him some slack and trying to listen on? To appreciate Morris, you need patience. When he speaks, you will pick a one-liner to keep. Even Johan, the newcomer from BB Finland told Biggie that Morris is quiet, gentle, but smart.

I have seen Morris' critics who don't know half the figurative language he uses. Well, he sometimes makes it monotonous (like when he goes "mysticism" and "enigma").

But on the whole, Morris knows his stuff - African literature, idioms, euphemisms, name it. And it has brought him this far, so why not let him be? Evict Ricco.

The other six countries whose representatives are still on the show might also do so to create room for their own. Type 'Vote Ricco' and send to 6626.
