Katchiungo — The administrator of Katchiungo district, central Huambo province, Antonio Kotingo, this Thursday expressed concern at the poor exploration of water resources, since it hinder the progress of farming production in because by this way it becomes difficult to increase the agricultural production in the region.
"Katchiungo district is extremely rich in water resources, which if properly explored enables farmers to produce the whole year, mainly vegetables, potatoes and other agricultural products", he referred.
Speaking to ANGOP, he said that the administration is committed to convince farming families to use water resources existing in the region.
He referred that local farmers only produce during the rainy season, although he defended the need to build irrigation ditches in order to turn agriculture into a permanent activity, and generate jobs.
Katchiungo district, 62 kilometres to the east of Huambo city (provincial capital), encompasses a hydrographical network made up of Rivers such as Cutato, Có, Kuvango, Culongoya, Vavayela, Wembe, Kaunde, Chipanga, Lutamo, Elamba, Kuokulo, Nguelengue, Chibandua and Tembua Soco.
