Luanda — A multi-specialised technical delegation of the Ministries of Environment and of Oil, this week concluded that about seven barrels of crude oil were spilt at the coast of Cabinda, as a result of the pipeline rupture at Block 0, operated by the CABGOC firm.
In a press release distributed to ANGOP this Thursday, CABGOC affirms that it made a local intervention, with "mechanical diffusion of the crude in the water", but due to the movement of the waves and winds the product ended up reaching the coast, in the Cacongo region, damaging the nets of fishermen who were executing their activity.
According to the communiqué, cleaning activities continue, including an ongoing plan to monitor the spill which shall be followed by an environmental auditing at Block 0 with the aim of clarifying the occurrence.
The plan will also aim at preventing future incidents, which are becoming frequent and affecting the marine ecosystem and coastal communities.
Both governmental institutions reiterated their engagement in the continuous efforts so that national laws are abided, as well as international conventions in force that were ratified by Angola, concludes the note.
After learning about the oil spill in the Cacongo regions in the northern coast of Cabinda province, at dawn on Thursday (October 15), both organs sent to that northern region a multi-specialised technical delegation with view to learn about the facts and diligences.
The delegation met with the provincial department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment, as well as with a team led by the director of operations of CABGOC firm, set up to follow up the progress of the occurrence.
