Luanda — Angolan head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, Wednesday visited for the first time the works of construction of the new Luanda international airport, designed for two-fold runways equipped to receive the world's largest commercial plane, Airbus A380.
The airport is being built 30 kilometres of the capital city, Luanda, and is expected complete by 2010.
Speaking to journalists at the end of the visit of the head of State, the member of the National Reconstruction Office, António Flore, said the runways will be turned south and northward.
According to the official, once complete, the north runway will have 4,2 kilometres of length, while the south one will measure 3,8 kilometres, with 60 metres of width each.
The source underlined the fact that the airport has been designed to receive large planes, in an effort to adjust it to the new technical requirements.
The undertaking will include such airport facilities as passenger terminals for domestic and foreign flights, traffic control tower, vip terminals, hotels and others.
He said that the project is currently undergoing reformulation, as 140 families traditionally living in the area are still to be relocated.
The airport is being built by the company, China International Fund Limited over an area of 5,000 hectares.
