Angola: Civil Society Conference for Peacekeeping

Luena — The second provincial conference of the civil society that went from October 21, in Luena, eastern Moxico province, closed Friday, with peacekeeping recommendations.

The participants also defended the drafting and implementation of projects that contribute to reduce juvenile violence and boost participation of women in decision making.

They also recommended the inclusion in projects marginalised small ethnic communities in order to enable them to benefit from public funds and create basic services of their interest.

On the other hand, the meeting of the civil society called for a cooperation, team working and partnership with the Government of the province towards their strengthening.

The meeting also spoke of the need for a dialogue among the various organisations of the civil society and exchange of information with institutions from other provinces and countries.

The opening of the session of chaired by Luena diocese bishop, Tirson Blanco, who highlighted the role played by members of the society in civil education and development of the communities.

The II Conference of the Civil Society had the participation of representatives of Government, political parties, churches, non-governmental and professional organisations, students and people interested.

It discussed mainly the civil society and its participation in the preservation of peace, the participation of women in public affairs and the role of civil society in conflict resolution.
